About the course

AI tools are already in most legal workplaces. What's usually missing is a decision about how they should be used, which leaves whoever is doing the work to figure it out alone. This course is that decision, made deliberately. The first half builds the underlying judgment: what these tools actually do, where they fail, and how to tell assistance from substitution. The second half applies it under professional stakes — research verification, document review, confidentiality and client data, the ethics rules, and the judgment calls that cannot be delegated to a tool no matter how good it gets. Every module includes an interactive exercise and a short knowledge check, and most add a worksheet, reference sheet or working log you can keep using afterward. It closes with a capstone: a document seeded with the errors this course teaches you to catch, and a self-review against a model key. All matters and documents in the exercises are constructed teaching material and should not be cited or used in an actual legal matter.

About Samir

I'm Samir, a legal professional with a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law and roughly seventeen years in immigration practice, including founding and running my own firm. I have taught at the college level, in subjects including legal research and writing, e-discovery, immigration, and the use of AI in legal settings. This course comes out of both sides of that work: the supervision problems that actually show up in a practice, and the experience of teaching people to verify a source properly before anyone's name goes on a filing. I built it because the guidance available on AI in legal work tends to be either breathless or alarmed, and neither one helps you decide what to do on a Tuesday afternoon with a deadline.
